EDS is the global outsourcing specialist with over 10,000 regular travellers based in the UK.
Before EDS appointed Hotelscene its hotel programme suffered from low compliance levels. Instead of booking through the appointed travel management company, employees preferred to make reservations directly with the hotel or via the Internet. Consequently EDS had no clear idea of how much it spent on accommodation, which in turn made it difficult to negotiate the best deals with hotel suppliers.
In 1999, EDS decided to trial Hotelscene as the hotel bookings provider for one part of its business – its Inland Revenue contract. "Hotelscene did very well," says Jane O’Grady, "It achieved good rates and the service was excellent." As a result, EDS UK awarded its entire hotel business to Hotelscene.
Asked why she prefers Hotelscene to handle her company’s accommodation programme instead of an ordinary travel management company, Ms O’Grady says: “Hotelscene go the extra mile. If a hotel cannot be booked at the EDS rate or lower they pick up the phone and call the hotel directly."
Compliance

The excellence of the service gave her the confidence to introduce a mandate that travellers would not be reimbursed for their hotel spend unless they included a booking confirmation from Hotelscene in their expenses claim. Compliance is now close to 100%.
Savings
EDS pays no fees to Hotelscene. This is because Hotelscene has renegotiated the rates that EDS formerly paid to its hotel suppliers from a net to a commissionable basis. In the first six years EDS has been with Hotelscene, the average negotiated EDS rate reduced by a dramatic 13.4%. "Hotelscene manages all our bookings, and it is able to negotiate strongly with hotels, resulting in better value for money for EDS" says Ms O’Grady.
